The Artistry Behind Bolesławiec Polish Pottery Poland
We were making sustainable pottery long before it became trendy! Our Bolesławiec pottery production wastes very little: we recycle clay scraps, reuse water, and run our kilns efficiently. Because Polish pottery from Poland lasts so long, you will not need to replace it for years.
The pieces go through more than 20 steps before reaching your home. We start at our pottery factory in Bolesławiec with local clay mixed with special minerals to make it incredibly strong. Then, our potters shape
each piece on traditional wheels or using unique moulds.
After drying for a bit, we fire the pottery in hot kilns at about 900°C. This first firing turns the soft clay into bisque ware —it is still plain but ready for the fun part— decorating! This is where Bolesławiec ceramics come alive. Our team uses stamps and brushes to create those patterns Poland pottery is famous for. It takes most of our decorators about five years of practice before they are ready to work on their own.
The last step involves adding glaze and firing again at 1250°C. This gives Bolesławiec ceramics a lovely shiny finish and makes it safe for your food. When it gets to
your home, you can even microwave it and wash it in a dishwasher.
Signature Patterns of the Bolesławiec Poland Pottery in Poland
One interesting thing about our pottery in Poland is that no two pieces are the same. Tiny differences show that it was made by people, not machines. If you have seen Bolesławiec pottery before, you have probably noticed some of our distinctive patterns:
- the peacock's eye pattern (we call it pawie oczko) on the pottery in Poland stands for good luck and protection,
- the Polka dot pattern,
- the speckled designs are inspired by starry nights over Bolesławiec,
- the forget-me-nots were traditionally given as keepsakes,
- the bright red poppies on some Bolesławiec ceramics celebrate how resilient Polish people are.
You might notice lots of blue and white in Bolesławiec Polish pottery. There's a practical reason: these colours stayed true during firing in the old days. We still love these traditional colours, but now our pottery factory also creates lovely greens, browns and deep reds using natural
pigments. Every season, we create new collections of Polish artistic ceramics directly from the factory in Poland that mix old traditions with fresh ideas.
